Raising Basset Hound Puppies!
LABOR PROCESS
At Howlin Hounds, we provide a hands-on approach from birth, ensuring a strong foundation built on trust, socialization, and care. We closely monitor our moms during labor, documenting photos, videos, and weights to track the puppies’ progress. For the first few weeks, the pups are kept in a supervised area with daily weight checks to ensure healthy growth. Additionally, they receive routine well-checks from our veterinarian to ensure their overall health.
WEEKS 1-3
From weeks 1 to 3, our puppies are raised in the heart of our home, surrounded by the everyday sounds of family life—dropped items, clanking pots, and kids playing. With four children actively involved, we create a loving, nurturing environment where our pups grow confident and well-loved, ready for their forever homes.
WEEKS 3-6
By weeks 3 to 6, our puppies are dining on "mush" (a fancy mix of kibble and goat’s milk) to start their weaning journey. They also begin litter training—yes, we’re all about getting them on the potty-training path early! [Don’t just take our word for it, our reviews are full of families saying their pups were potty trained by day three] It’s like magic, but with more puppy kisses and fewer accidents! We also take this time to introduce toys, slides, and tunnels which provides sound and texture enrichment that promotes early neurological stimulation for your puppy.
WEEKS 7-8
Between week 7 to 8 our sweet fur babies are introduced to nutrient rich chicken liver to support their growing bodies and healthy coats, also at this time our loving veterinarian and staff ensures they are in perfect health with check-ups, vaccines, microchips, and deworming. It's a bittersweet moment watching them grow ready for the love they deserve while knowing our time with them is coming to an end we take comfort in knowing they'll bring boundless joy to their forever homes.
Puppy Take Home Package!
Homeward Bound!
At Howlin Hounds, we provide a puppy care package with all the essentials to help the transition into your home, such as toys, a poop-bag flashlight, as well as a harness or collar with a leash. We include food, as well as some of our favorite treats that our pups love. We also include a Birth Certificate noting the birth information such as dates, mom and dad, weight at birth, and a stamped pawprint, as well as our health guarantee contract. All vet documentation such as wellness exams, shot records, and all genetic testing on mom and dad is provided. We include a one month treatment for NexGard, as well as nutritional supplements from NuVet Which we highly recommend. We include a blanket with the scent of mom and litter mates, as well as some pine pellets that make the continued potty and the transition to your home smooth and easy. Lastly, your puppy care package will come with a framed photo from our 8 week photo shoot just prior to take home. We really do enjoy all that transpires leading up to their Journey Homeward Bound.
