Labor Process
Here at Howlin Hounds, we take a hands on approach with our pups as we lay a strong foundation from the moment of birth. We build on that foundation with trust, socialization, and love. During labor, we are very attentive to our momma's as many things can happen at a moments notice. Throughout the labor process we take birth photos, videos, and document weights so we can monitor your fur babies gains over the coming days and weeks. After labor, puppies will spend the first few weeks in our bedroom/living area where they are monitored closely, and daily weight checks are performed to ensure proper weight gains. Within the next few weeks following delivery our fur babies will see our veterinarian for well checks.
WEEKS 1-3 Introduction to kids, sounds, and a busy home
From week 1 - 3, our pups are primarily raised in our living room/kitchen area so they can grow in a normal household environment allowing them to experience sounds such as things dropping, the clanking of pots and pans, vacuuming, or kids playing loudly etc. We have four children and they are all very active in the whole process of raising our fur babies. I'm sure you've heard the saying "It takes a village to raise a child" well the same applies to our puppies, we want them as confident as they can be.
WEEKS 3-6, - Puppy weaning and potty training
By weeks 3 - 6, our puppies are introduced to mush which is a formula of kibble soaked in goats milk to start the weaning process over the coming weeks. We also introduce our litter training process at this time! If you read through our reviews, you'll see that the potty training system we've developed works wonders and makes potty training very easy when the time comes to transition your puppy from our home to yours. We've had multiple families tell us there puppy was potty trained as early as day three after coming home due to our early potty training system we implement at three weeks.
WEEKS 7-8 - Vet Checks, vaccines, and going home!
Between weeks 7 - 8, puppies will be seen by our licensed veterinarian whom will make sure all is well, provide health checks, administer vaccines, and deworm if needed. Furthermore, at this time puppies will be micro-chipped in preparations for going home. Upon picking up your puppy, you'll be provided with a puppy care package that includes, a small bag of pine pellets to continue potty training, veterinarian documentation, vaccination records, microchip registration information/QR code, a puppy collar, food starter bag, toys and a blanket with their Mom's and littermates scents. We also include a sample of nutritional vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your puppy needs for a strong immune system, and healthy bone growth.
